In order to encourage the sorghum growers, the Government of Karnataka has implemented 'Raita Siri Yojana'. Under this scheme, a grant of Rs 10,000 per hectare will be paid through direct cash transfer to the farmer's account for increasing the area under cereal crops.

Objectives of Raitha Siri Scheme
Expansion of cereal area in the state and increase in production
Encouraging farmers to grow cereals as they contribute to nutritious food, farmer security, sustainable agriculture and environmental protection
Making good use of low rainfall and low fertility land.
To improve the financial condition of farmers by introducing advanced technologies for the production of cereals at the right time.
Subsidy to farmers growing cereals
- An incentive of Rs 10,000 per hectare will be credited to the farmer's bank account through direct cash transfer in 2 installments to the cereal farmers.
- Only Navane, Haraka, Same and Baragu grains for blowing will be emphasized.
- The first installment of Rs 6000 will be credited to the farmer's account after 30 days of sorghum sowing after GPS-based photo verification of the crop.
- 2nd installment incentive of ₹4,000 will be deposited later.
- Providing incentives to be limited to a maximum of 2 hectares per beneficiary farmer.
- This scheme is being implemented in coordination with 'National Agricultural Development Scheme' and other similar schemes.
Cereals are rich in protein, fiber, calcium and minerals that ensure nutritional security in the diet. Especially these crops can be grown in dry arid conditions, even in lands with low fertility.
Eligibility of Beneficiaries:
- Beneficiary should be a farmer and have land in his name.
- In case of having a joint account, the consent of the other account holders should be obtained.
- If the land is in the name of father or mother and they have passed away, the application should be submitted with confirmation from the village accountant and consent of other family members.
- Having an account in the name of a woman and applying in the name of other male members of the family should not be accepted, application in the name of the woman should be encouraged.
- Beneficiary farmers must have grown cereals like Udalu, Navne, Haraka, Korale, Same and Baragu as major crops.
